Point of Arches from the South

This was taken on the shore of the Ozette Reservation, just north of Cape Alava, Clallam County. You can see Point of Arches about six miles to the north. The water is very muddy here.

This would make a nice two-day hike, starting at Ozette and walking the 3.4 miles to the beach, then eight miles north to Point of the Arches, 2.5 miles farther along Shi-Shi Beach, and then two miles to the parking lot at the south end of the Makah Reservation. There's a river ford and a couple of short overland treks that involve fixes ropes on approach and descent.

Summer in Taiga

Summer and winter are the main seasons in the taiga. The spring and autumn are very short. In the Northern taiga summer is short too.

But even on the North a summer in taiga is often very hot.

Summer is a rainy, hot and short season in the taiga. But fires are not uncommon in the taiga during the summer.

Taiga near Igarka, the North Of Siberia

The zone of forest-tundra is located between taiga and tunra. It extends across Alaska, Northern Canadian territories and Russia from the Kola peninsula to the Chukotka.

Taiga and forest-tundra have no comfort season. At summer months the taiga and the tundra fill up with millions or billions of insects like during one of the Biblical Plagues of Egypt. There is no insects in winter but very cold. Also taiga is an areal of brown bear and wolf.

Hong Kong Salaries Tax

In Hong Kong personal income tax is known as salaries tax. Individuals are only assessed on annual employment income. Non-employment source income such as share dividends and capital gains realized on the sale of shares are not taxable in the territory. Salaries tax is governed by the provisions of the Inland Revenue Ordinance. Income received by an employee is subject to salaries tax whilst income received by a self employed person is subject to profits tax. Salary tax rates are among the lowest in the world and remain one of the major attractions of locating to the territory.

The territorial principle governs salaries tax with the consequence that salaries tax is only levied on income “arising in or derived from a Hong Kong employment”.
