A beautiful Qingdao

Today Qingdao is a major city in eastern Shandong province. This is a nice big city with a population of over 8 million.

It means green island.

Modern Qingdao

Qingdao has a great history. First human settlement here dates 6,500 years ago. After 1891 Tsingtao was under German occupation. After China conceded this territory to Germany the following year, and the Kiautschou Bay concession, as it became known, existed from 1898 to the First World War.

The Town Hall, or Municipal Government Office of Tsingtao. This impressive building was built in 1904. In a 1989 reconstruction effort, the ivy was removed and the entire building was replicated. From the front there is an unobstructed view down a wide avenue to the sea.

St. Michael's Cathedral is the seat of the Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Qingdao. This church was built in 1934, and it is one of the most recognized symbols of the city.

Now Qingdao is famous for its brewery. Oh, world-famous Tsingtao Brewery. The Tsingtao Dark is the best beer in China. It is a tasteless Chinese beers at 2-3 % abv. At 5,2% abv it pours a dark amber color with a nice white head. The smell is very malty, and the mouthfeel nice and creamy. It sports a nice, mild Porter-ish flavor, with its light roastiness, and a sweet overall maltiness. It's recomended!

Oh, Qingdao is the best city in the country... Qingdao today

It is the most livable Chineese city, and possible in Asia (of course except for towns in Japan).
