The Football Association is the governing body of football in England.

Formed in 1863, it is the oldest football association in the world and is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the amateur and professional game in England.

The FA sanctions all competitive football matches in England at national level, and indirectly at local level through the County Football Associations. It runs numerous competitions, the most famous of which is the FA Cup. It is also responsible for appointing the management of the men's, women's and youth national football teams.

Prepare for worst

Another day of high temperatures and strong winds is expected to keep firefighters busy across much of New South Wales on Thursday.



An uncontained fire three kilometres north-east of Lithgow in the Blue Mountains is already causing concern for fire crews as north-westerly winds blow the blaze towards the towns of Clarence and Oakley Park.

World Food Day is celebrated every year around the world on 16 October in honor of the date of the founding of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in 1945. The day is celebrated widely by many other organisations concerned with food security, including the World Food Programme.

Fiesta Nacional de España

Viva España!

Today is the Fiesta Nacional de España. National Day of Spain is held annually on October 12. It commemorates the anniversary of Christopher Columbus's first arrival in the Americas, a day also celebrated in other countries. Since 2000, this date has also been Spain's Day of the Armed Forces, celebrated each year with a military parade in Madrid.

Spain is a country with a great history. There are many showplaces.

A lava lake at Mount Nyiragongo, a volcano found in Virunga National Park in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Lava lakes, which can form in three different ways, are large volumes of molten lava, usually basaltic, contained in a volcanic vent, crater, or broad depression.

Japan Earthquake and Tsunami

A ferocious tsunami spawned by one of the largest earthquakes on record slammed Japan's eastern coast, killing hundreds of people as it swept away ships, cars and homes while widespread fires burned out of control.



Police said 200 to 300 bodies were found in the northeastern coastal city of Sendai, the city in Miyagi prefecture, or state, closest to the epicentre. Another 137 were confirmed killed, with 531 people missing. Police also said 544 people were injured.

Lodhi Gardens

The Lodhi Gardens is a park (over 90 acres) in Delhi, India.

It is a one of the pleasantest green spaces in the city.



The Gardens have monuments of Lodi and Sayyid dynasties. The area was used as a burial for Delhi's (pre-Mughal) Sayyid and Lodi rulers.
